Herzog Foundation Hosts Convention in Philadelphia Honoring America’s 250th Anniversary
The Herzog Foundation welcomed more than 150 Christian educators, leaders, and partners from across the country to America250: National Convention for Christian Education, held March 8-10 in Philadelphia. The three-day gathering commemorated America’s 250th anniversary while exploring the vital role of Christian education in shaping the nation’s future.
Hosted at the historic Union League in the nation’s original capital, the convention brought together voices from leading organizations committed to strengthening Christian education, including the Center for Christian Virtue, Hillsdale College K-12 Education, The Colson Center, and Turning Point Education.
“This week we gather not merely to talk about education,” said Director of the Herzog Foundation Institute Sadie Elliott during her opening remarks. “We gather to reflect on the ideas that built a nation, the truths that sustain freedom, and the responsibility we carry to pass them faithfully to the next generation.”
Throughout the event, speakers emphasized that Christian education is essential to preserving the founding principles of the United States. Sessions focused on the historical, philosophical, and theological roots of American liberty, as well as the responsibility of educators to equip students with both knowledge and virtue.
Aaron Baer, President of the Center for Christian Virtue, challenged attendees to take an active role in rebuilding a culture grounded in truth. “This is the moment for Christian education to expand like never before,” he said, describing the work of educators as a “full-on rescue mission.”
Other speakers reinforced the importance of grounding education in biblical truth. Scott Polender of Turning Point Education Association emphasized that “scripture must be the foundation of all education,” while pastor and author Cole Feix encouraged teachers to cultivate Christian virtues that naturally produce strong and faithful citizens.
“Teach your kids Christian virtues and the values of the Founding will be theirs,” Feix said.
In addition to keynote sessions, attendees participated in guided tours of Philadelphia’s historic landmarks, connecting the principles discussed in sessions with the physical places where America’s founding took shape.
The convention served as both a commemoration of the nation’s past and a call to action for its future, highlighting the critical role Christian educators play in forming the next generation of leaders.
“The seeds planted in our Declaration 250 years ago are ready to come to our aid today,” Feix said. “The beams that will hold this vision up for the next 250 years are sitting in your classrooms.”
The Herzog Foundation remains committed to supporting Christian schools, educators, and families through training, resources, and community, ensuring that the principles that shaped America continue to endure for generations to come.
