Herzog Foundation Hosts Board Leadership Bootcamp

Smithville, MO (July 22, 2022) – The Herzog Foundation hosted a new training opportunity for Christian school leaders on July 17 – 20 in Kansas City, Missouri. American Philanthropic assisted the Herzog Foundation in developing the training, which is specifically designed for Christian school administrators and board members.

“After surveying hundreds of Christian schools, Board Leadership Training surfaced as one of the most important training opportunities in Christian education,” said Herzog Foundation President Darrell Jones. “What are proper lanes of engagement? Where are the gaps in communication? How can we build a healthy leadership culture in our Christian school? These questions and more are answered at our Board Leadership Bootcamp.”

In attendance at this week’s training event were 40 Christian school leaders from 16 different schools and 11 states. Each school in attendance was required to register its Head of School and Board Chairman together. Schools also had the option to bring 1 additional board member.

“Healthy schools have healthy leadership – and that starts with the school board,” said Herzog Foundation Chairman Todd Graves. “Whether you’re an independent school, connected to a church, a startup school, or established, the Herzog Foundation Board Leadership Bootcamp is designed to improve the working relationship between the Board and school administration.”

Each attendee received a $2,000 scholarship from the Herzog Foundation, which covered all costs incurred during the event including hotels, meals, and transportation. The following industry experts led the three-day bootcamp event:

  • Jason Lloyd, American Philanthropic
  • Whitney Marsh, Acadia Education
  • Ed Smith, Grapevine Faith Christian School
  • Erik Twist, Arcadia Education
