A Conversation with Carrie Sheffield on Healing and Forgiveness

Herzog Foundation 105 NW 188th Street Smithville, MO 64089

Join the Herzog Foundation as we welcome Carrie Sheffield, a bestselling author, columnist & broadcaster from Washington, D.C. Carrie’s newly released memoir, Motorhome Prophecies: A Journey of Healing and Forgiveness, is the story of her unbelievable, yet in many ways, very American journey. It resonates with those trapped in difficult situations and awes all who are enchanted by the depths and resilience of the human spirit.

In the vein of Educated and Hillbilly Elegy, Motorhome Prophecies chronicles Carrie’s harrowing journey growing up in a motorhome with her seven siblings, constantly on the move to serve their father’s fanatical religious vision. Carrie was the first of her siblings to break free from her father’s grasp and attend college. She earned a B.A. with honors at Brigham Young University and completed a Fulbright fellowship in Berlin. Later, she obtained a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard University and ascended in the spheres of business and policy, with roles at Goldman Sachs, the American Enterprise Institute, and other prominent groups. Despite her professional success, it wasn’t until Sheffield became a Christian that healing truly began.

“As I returned to a walk with God, I feel enveloped with a sense of peace that surpasses all understanding,” she writes, referring to Philippians 4:7 in the Bible, which promises peace for those who take their worries to God. “My renewed admiration for the mission of Christ to unify and heal breathed new life and joy into my heart. I recovered a sense of confidence, not in myself but in my purpose and identity as a child of God.”
