Herzog Foundation Celebrates School Choice Week Following Landmark Year for Education Freedom

Smithville, MO (January 25, 2022) – The Herzog Foundation will join Christian schools, parents and students across the nation to celebrate the twelfth annual National School Choice Week (NSCW) from Jan. 23-29. NSCW was officially formed as a nonprofit entity in 2011 with the objective to host “the world’s largest celebration of opportunity in education.” This celebration and the corresponding school choice movement have only continued to grow over the years, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year alone, over 25,000 schools and homeschool groups plan on celebrating NSCW. In addition, recent survey findings released by NSCW revealed that school choice is trending up among parents, with nearly 70% in support. Of those in support, 35% are open to private or faith-based schools and 24% are open to homeschooling.

These numbers support the Herzog Foundation’s recent finding that Christian schools vastly outperformed public schools during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to a nationwide survey conducted by the Herzog Foundation last year, 80% of Christian school parents were satisfied with their children’s education. Meanwhile, just over half of public school parents were satisfied.

“It’s easy to see why there’s a mass exodus from public schools,” said Herzog Foundation Chairman Todd Graves. “Parents are realizing that better education opportunities exist for their children. When it comes to in-person learning and empowering parents to make the best choices for their children, Christian schools win every time.”

“We’re thrilled to see parents embrace educational freedom for their children,” said Herzog Foundation President Darrell Jones. “Christian schools will only continue to grow and the Herzog Foundation stands ready to assist these schools and parents nationwide as they navigate their options.”

The Herzog Foundation regularly hosts training events for Christian schools. These events are largely free of cost and open to all Christian educators and administrators. In addition, the Herzog Foundation is releasing a school start-up kit this spring for parents and entrepreneurs interested in forming their own Christian schools.
