On December 15, 1791, the United States of America ratified the Bill of Rights, the first ten amendments to the U.S. Constitution. Today, the Bill of Rights still stands as both a symbol and foundation of our most fundamental rights as Americans. Join the Herzog Foundation in celebrating over 230 years of the Bill of Rights by answering the essay prompt below:
What made the Bill of Rights revolutionary and unique at the time of its ratification? How has it shaped the United States and its citizens over the years?
Essay contestants must answer the prompt in 1,500 words or less (approximately three pages, single-spaced). Bibliographies will not count toward the word limit. Only essays from full-time students in Christian schools or homeschools will be considered.
One middle school winner (grades 6–8) and one high school winner will each receive a $300 award from the Herzog Foundation. A number of runners-up may also receive a $150 award, depending on the strength of the submissions. Winners will be announced on December 15, 2025, in honor of Bill of Rights Day.
